MBA no more!!!

Well it finally came to pass that FIFA accepted me as a student in their program - Masters in Sports Management! So out of the window went all plans pertaining to the MBA at the Asian Institute of Management (well for the time being atleast). The Masters in Sports Management is a course conducted by CIES (which is French for International Centre for Sports Studies) in association with FIFA. The course is divided into 3 parts the first of which starts in Leicester at the De Montford University which deals with the Humanities of sport. From Leicester, after a small break for christmas we're off to Milan to the Bocconi School of Management for the Business management module of the course and then lastly to Neuchatel in Switzerland to the University of Neuchatel for the module pertaining to Law.

I have just arrived in Leicester for the Pre- seasonal english course, which is a excuse to get here in time to hopefully catch a few games of the India- England one day international series. For now ten of my classmates doing the same course have turned up, and it is quite an experience studying with people from all over the world, an experience i'm enjoying every bit of!! Hopefully more good things and times to come.

One down one to go

Yup, ive made it, I got a call a couple of days ago from the Asian Institute of management. 'Congratulations' it read 'you have made it to the MBA program. I guess the optimistic feeling i had when i walked out of the intreview paid off!!! Well like the title says one down and one to go, the one I really want is a place in the FIFA masters program, a program in sports management, one of my feverent passions in life. Though most of my family is hell bent on packing me off to the Asian institute of management ASAP, ill still keep my fingers crossed and hope i make it to the FIFA program.

The Interview

Arite, now that im done with this interview which was 5 hours of hell, boredom and some very lame attempts at humour I walk out of the Board Room feeling strangely optimistic. A couple of other applicants and me were asked to come back for a second interview 4 hours after the first one. Now I dont know if this was a good thing, as some of the smarter applicants (atleast I thought so) were not called back. So now after a few more lame attempts at humour and an analytical excercise later I am now told the results will be out in 3 weeks time. So i guess its waiting with bated breath for another 21 days or so. SO back to the good old Mumbai grind till then.

The MBA Dilema

Well there comes a time in every mans life (atleast mine) when your about 3 years into your work, earning decently, lets be honest its never really enough and then suddenly outta nowhere, someone says, son have you ever considered doing an mba? Well then you start thinking, if i do this course, dedicating a year to it, it basically means more money when you emerge a post graduate right? well now comes the biggest issue, back to studying!! the very thought of it in the begining scared the hell out of me. So after a lot of deliberating and keeping it off and after a few threats from the father, i quit my job, hit the books and sat for the GMAT, which wasnt half bad. You see life is quite a bitch, in the fact that no decent college accept you without a decent gmat score, the ones that dont no matter whats written on their web pages, its not true, so there is basically no point in applying there. Well now i have a call from the asian institute of management, and im hoping that works out. The interview is on Wednesday, so ill keep you posted on how that pans out.
